James explores the natural beauty inherent in wood. He searches out burls with irregular and interesting shapes and tries to let the wood direct the final shape of the bowl. Natural semi precious stone or metals such as copper or brass are often used to enhance the patterns found in the wood. Chip carving is also employed to add extra interest to some bowls and spoons.
