Barry McCarthy

Barry McCarthy is a local Artist who resides and works full time in his studio in Elora. Barry was born in Deep River but grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and has lived in Centre Wellington for most of his life. He was an Art Teacher over a 30 year career at Waterloo Collegiate and also including a two year stint at the University of Waterloo.

His extensive art collection executed in both watercolours and oils has a variety of subject matter: landscapes, seascapes, architecture, florals, portraits and still life. He shows primarily at the Loch Gallery, Yorkville, Toronto. His work has been featured in The International Artist Magazine and is collected in many public and private collections including the University of Guelph, Waterloo University and the Wellington County Museum and Archives.

Barry’s philosophy about painting is that “to paint is to breathe life into your subject. To paint is to connect with one’s spirit, one’s soul. This is the harmony of life itself, which I believe is “the gift”. To celebrate the smallest things in life only to find their deeper meaning, and then share it with others is the greatest gift of all!”
